If you have epoxy flooring in your home, business office, warehouse, garage floor, etc. you may get asked how much time and energy it takes to keep the coating looking pristine. The truth is, maintenance of epoxy flooring is pretty simple and almost anyone can do it. If you keep up with maintenance, your epoxy will last decades and still look brand new.
Here are some useful tips for maintaining your epoxy flooring: Make sure to mop the flooring two to three times a year. You may also want to sweep or vacuum up dust bunnies and other debris occasionally. It doesn’t take very much to keep epoxy flooring in tip top shape. Most garage floors have stains, wear and tear, or other issues. Wherever you have epoxy flooring, these maintenance tips will be the same. For minor spills or drippage, wipe them down with a paper towel or washcloth. Routine maintenance cleaning can be accomplished with either a blue commercial dust mop (found at any home improvement store) or a soft bristled broom. If you need to deep clean your epoxy flooring, sweep away any debris and mop the floor with a hard foam mop using hot water and ammonia. Minimize your ammonia use to 4 to 5 ounces per gallon of water to properly remove imperfections. If you find that a winter road pretreatment compound has left a hazy film over your epoxy flooring, you can remove the film with hot water and a deck brush from a hardware store. Repeating this a few times may be needed. Some other stains may require gentle scrubbing with a simple kitchen scrubbing pad. If you can’t get rid of the stains with hot water, then try using Soft Scrub. Do not use Comet or other related chemicals on the coating. You can also hose down your epoxy flooring and squeegee it until it is dry. Make sure not to use any cleaners that contain acid or soap based cleaners.
